Johannes Obakeng Nkwane is a second year Bcomp Accounting Science student at the University of South Africa. The 20 years old male is motivated by change and believes success is derived from the heart of giving back to the community.

As the newly elected chairperson of Lesedi La Phetogo, he had shown dedication in many forms over the organisation and has established well-grounded key fundamentals in organising, controlling, planning and leading. “Doing it from the bottom of my heart gives me good hope about the organisation itself”, he said.

Before the organisation existed, Obakeng started his community service as an individual who offered his spare time to tutor and motivate pupils from his own community. “Even if it’s a matter of one person per day, it satisfies me enough because that makes seven people a week and 365 people in a year; just think about how many people I would have changed in 10 years” says Obakeng. As a member of community, he understands that lack of education is not only the attribute of a struggle, there is more to it.

He inspires his peers to become a mentor they wish they had.
